LaunchPoint Q1 update: We're up and running!
TLDR: Five students are "back in the game", as part of the LPA family.
When we first set out, in May of this year, to create a microschool for kids who have fallen out of Syracuse-area schools, we could not foresee exactly how things would develop. What a fun and rewarding journey it has been so far! We are happy to report that now, just over two months into the school year, the growing LPA family includes:
Five students who had previously been out of school (our goal for the year is ten)
A 3-person team of tutors (“guides”), who are doing ride pickups, making breakfast, and otherwise supporting the students in getting to school and being at their best
A 3-person team of volunteers providing nutritious and freshly made lunches every day
A selection of learning programs and curricula, suitable for meeting both GED and NYS High School diploma requirements
A weekly art class with local artist Sanlly Viera
A paid work program (two students involved so far - one contracting and one programming)
A roster of professionals ready to share information about their careers and businesses with LPA students
Several local “friends of LPA” supporting the program in various ways (thank you for your work and your donations, X, Josh, Michael SL, Ming, Jakim, Marcus and others!)

We are still operating out of the classrooms in the front part of the boxing gym. But renovation of our building is moving forward, led by the capable “Dido” from 3F Property Services. The place is going to be very nice, and comfortable, when it is done!

One of our founding tutors / guides is professional boxer (and Fowler graduate) Amir “Cashman” Anderson. He fights in Nashville this Sunday, and we’ll be having a watch party in the LPA building to cheer him on. (Ree Moo (“Lil Cra Cra”) from the gym will also be fighting.) Please join us at 6pm this Sunday if you are available! Anyone can come, there will be pizza and drinks… it’s free of course!
Use the address 303 South Geddes to get to our building. Hope to see you there! (Call me (Henry) at three-one-five, six-five-seven, three-nine-one-two if you want to ask about it or just let us know that you’ll becoming.)

Good to hear the program is off and running, and already successful! It’s a great thing you and your team are doing. Hopefully, it will become a model for others to follow across the country. One day, there will be many graduates of your program who will appreciate the avenue you have provided and will be successful themselves.
